We burnt down the houses in Benue,Nigerian Army Admits and only one old man died in the inferno


The Nigerian army has taken responsibility for the attack, which resulted in burning down of houses in a Benue community on Thursday.

Olabisi Ayeni, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Army 707 Special Forces Brigade in Makurdi, said the attack was in retaliation for the killing of a soldier by some residents of the community.

The spokesman identified the slain soldier as Danlami Gambo.

The soldier was said to have been alone when he was killed in unclear circumstances on Wednesday afternoon.

The soldier was thereafter buried in a shallow grave, according to the Army spokesperson.

The apparent reprisal by the army resulted in the death of one elderly citizen who was killed in the blaze.

No fewer than 20 houses have been razed after armed men attacked Naka, Gwer West LGA of Benue State.
DAILY POST gathered that the armed men, said to be wearing military camouflage, invaded the community, Thursday afternoon, shooting sporadically and setting houses on fire.
A source hinted this reporter that residents of the area have been rendered homeless by the attackers.
Meanwhile, a text message to the state Police PRO, ASP Moses Yamu was not replied at the time of this report.
