The phone rang in the quiet of his room, the caller ID flashing “Dad.” Back in the village, the air was likely thick with the scent of woodsmoke and the weight of ancient traditions, but here, Emeka was worlds away.
“My son,” his voice crackled over the line, carrying that familiar authority. “The elders have spoken. There are rites we must perform for the land, for the family. I need you to send money so we can appease the spirits and carry out the sacrifice.”
Emeka took a deep breath, the weight of his own convictions pressing against his chest. “Dad, you know I can’t do that. I am a Christian.”
There was a long pause, the kind that feels like a physical distance. “But why?” he asked, his tone softening into a confused plea. “We are all serving the same one God, are we not? Whether through the old ways or your new way, it’s the same Creator.”
“No, Dad,” Emeka replied, his voice steady but firm. “We aren’t. A God who demands blood to appease Him, who supports things that bring harm to others, or promises unthinkable rewards for deadly acts… that can’t be the same God I know.”

Emeka looked at the Bible on his desk, thinking of the grace and peace he had found. “The God He serves is about love and life, not fear and rituals. Dad, we might not be serving the same God after all.”
The silence on the other end was heavy, the realization hanging between us like a curtain neither of us knew how to pull back.

Friends, this was Emeka’s predicament—an episode that raises a question so many of us today need to answer: are we all serving the same God as people often assert when such discussions come up?
If we are serving the same God, why would He demand the lives and blood of others from you but require me to love and support others?

In fact, He clearly stated, “GOD IS LOVE, anyone who hates his neighbor is a murderer, and a murderer has no place in paradise but in eternal hell.

Are we all serving the same God after all?
This is your week.
