Former Jigawa Governor Sule Lamido has said northern Nigeria must “tell ourselves the truth” to end worsening insecurity, blaming the crisis on poor leadership and moral decay. Speaking to Premier Radio Kano on Thursday, the PDP chieftain lamented that “Boko Haram members and bandits… are our children from the North” and warned that “the fault is ours, and we must fix it, starting from proper upbringing at home.”

Lamido decried the politicization of insecurity, saying “someone says Izala, another Qadiriyya… this one says APC, another PDP, while this menace continues to confront us.” He described the killings as unjustifiable: “Someone can invade your home, rape your wife and abduct you… Where is the power? If you cannot protect your people, the rogue simply becomes the governor.” While backing state police with “adequate training and discipline,” he urged northern parents and leaders to unite, warning: “We are at a critical juncture… We must wake up or face the consequences.”
