The Imo State Government has officially handed over the General Hospital, Okigwe, to the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare for its conversion into a new Federal Medical Centre (FMC).

The handover was formalized during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) witnessed by the Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, and Governor Hope Uzodimma.

Governor Uzodimma said the decision was taken in the overriding public interest to facilitate the immediate take-off of the Federal Medical Centre, expressing appreciation to the Federal Government for approving the takeover of the hospital’s assets, liabilities, and workforce.

He noted that the establishment of the new FMC would strengthen healthcare delivery and improve access to quality medical services for the people of Imo State and beyond.
