A Nigerian billionaire tech entrepreneur and businessman, Chief Gaius Chibueze, has renewed public debate over the messages and methods of Nnamdi Kanu, arguing that while some of Kanu’s past warnings about Nigeria’s worsening insecurity may have contained elements of truth, his overall strategy was fundamentally flawed.

In a statement titled “Right Message, Wrong Strategy,” Chibueze said the resurfacing of old videos featuring Kanu’s warnings has continued to generate public discussion, especially amid rising insecurity across parts of the country.

He noted that although he does not dismiss everything Kanu has said over the years, his main criticism has consistently been focused on what he described as the activist’s “approach and strategy.”

Chibueze criticized what he called violent and incendiary rhetoric, warning that repeated calls for destruction could ultimately harm the same communities they are intended to protect. He argued that since Igbo people are an integral part of Nigeria, any message suggesting total systemic collapse would have direct consequences for them.

He also referenced the late Biafran leader, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, stating that lessons from the Nigerian Civil War emphasized the dangers and futility of returning to violent confrontation.

The billionaire entrepreneur further disclosed that he once met Kanu in London at the height of his influence, where he reportedly advised him to adopt a non-violent, development-focused approach centered on economic empowerment and regional growth. He described this concept as “Economic Biafra,” inspired by models of peaceful self-determination such as Catalonia.

According to him, over the past 13 years, the strategies associated with Kanu’s movement have contributed to setbacks in the South-East, insisting that a rethink is necessary for meaningful progress
.
He concluded that being occasionally right does not validate a flawed approach, using the analogy that “a broken clock is still right twice a day.”

The statement was released under his advocacy platform, MAIGA (Make Ala Igbo Great Again), a movement he promotes for economic and social development in the South-East.
