Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde is rallying public patience amid a high-stakes rescue operation to free teachers and pupils snatched from their schools in Yawota and Ahoro-Esinele communities, Oriire Local Government Area.
In a tense meeting at Government House, Makinde received a high-powered Nigerian Air Force delegation led by Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Suleh, where he delivered a defiant message: security forces are hunting the abductors with real-time intelligence, and every resource is being thrown at bringing the victims home alive.
The governor didn’t hold back praise for the Air Force, revealing a dramatic twist in the state’s security buildup. While Oyo’s own two Diamond-42 surveillance planes are still being pieced together at the Air Force Base in Lagos, the military swiftly loaned a replacement aircraft to keep eyes in the sky over the crisis zone. That aerial surveillance, Makinde said, is already yielding actionable intelligence that’s reshaping ground operations.
Why Diamond-42s? Makinde explained it wasn’t a random choice. After deep consultations with Air Force brass, Oyo deliberately picked the aircraft for its easy maintenance, engineering support, and pilot training pipeline — a long-term bet on building homegrown aerial surveillance muscle. Once fully operational, these birds will patrol not just Oyo but neighboring states too.
The Air Force delegation fired back with equal resolve, carrying the Chief of Air Staff’s personal solidarity and a pledge of unwavering support until every last victim is recovered. They also saluted Makinde’s government for backing Air Force infrastructure projects across the state — a partnership both sides now want to deepen through joint training and maintenance programs.
The message from Ibadan is clear: this rescue isn’t ending until everyone comes home.
