Ebonyi State Government has commenced the process of removing Amasiri as one of the 64 Development Centres in the State following incessant crises in the area.
To this end, the Executive bill will be sent to the State House of Assembly to repeal the Ebonyi State Local Government and Development Centre Law of 2015 and cancel the creation of Amasiri Development.
Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, who announced this while briefing newsmen after the Security Council Meeting, said that the council also directed Government to dethrone the two traditional rulers of Amasiri clan and dissolve all groups and unions in Amasiri.
“The Government agreed with the directives of the Security Council; therefore, all amenities, including public and private schools, are hereby closed down while Commissioners for Primary and Secondary Education, and Local Government should immediately post the teachers to other communities outside Amasiri.”
“The Council also agreed to place a curfew in the area, mandating all banks, markets, shops, and quarries to remain closed and movements restricted from 2 pm to 10 am,” the Governor said.
The Governor directed the Chairmen of Afikpo, Ivo, Onicha, and Ohaozara to take over the activities of Government in Amasiri with immediate effect.
The Council also directed law enforcement agents to swiftly implement the resolutions of the Council; bring perpetrators to book and recover severed heads of the victims of Okporojo killings.
It will be recalled that the Governor had earlier sacked all Government appointees from the area.
