Video: “I would have shot Seun Okinbaloye” – Minister Nyesom Wike.

Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, recently remarked on national television that he would have shot journalist Seun Okinbaloye for suggesting that Nigeria is being engineered toward a one-party state. Even if intended as a figure of speech, such language is deeply unacceptable. The Minister should not only retract the statement but also issue a personal apology to Seun Okinbaloye.
As Nigeria moves closer to the presidential election, the ruling APC, despite projecting confidence in its chances continues to send troubling, anti-democratic signals that appear aimed at shrinking the country’s democratic space. This trend is dangerous and should concern all stakeholders committed to preserving democratic norms.
