In 1991 more than 500 Christians were massacred by Muslim Extremists in Bauchi because of Pork.

Let me explain.

On the 21st of April 1991, in Tafawa Balewa, Bauchi State, Nigeria,

A young Muslim man went to the market to buy meat.

He bought it. He went home. He prepared it and began to eat.

Then his friends allegedly told him the meat he was eating was pork. Forbidden in his religion.

The moment he found out, he became enraged.

He and his friends went back to the Christian meat seller and started throwing tantrums.

From tantrums, a fight broke out Christian meat sellers who sold pork and Muslim meat sellers who sold halal meat started fighting.

The word spread quickly. Tafawa Balewa erupted.

As the news spread further into Bauchi every Christian became a target to the Jihadists mob.

The massacres went on for four days.

By the time the government could end the massacre, thousands had been killed.

Churches and homes had been burnt and thousands were displaced.

Over pork.

And it was all a set up..

It is extremely rare for a market in such an area to have pork sellers operating side by side with halal meat sellers.

Many people believe this young christian meat seller was set up.

That buying pork and thinking it was beef was not an accident but an intentional act.

It was a trigger to create chaos and war. Because there was already tension in Bauchi.

The government was trying to impose Muslim leadership, an Emirate system, on a community that was majority Christian.

The Christians resisted. They said: “we are not Muslims, you cannot give us an emir”

The stories that came out of Tafawa Balewa and Bauchi because of this massacre are horrible.

Between 500 and 1,000 people died.

Most Nigerians have never heard about this event.

But it is also proof that the oppression and persecution of Christians in Nigeria did not begin with Boko Haram.

It started long before conventional terrorism.

Because of Pork meat they killed hundreds of people. Maybe thousands.

They burned down churches, homes, and shops for four straight days..

While the massacre was going on an elderly man staggered into a police station bleeding from his head, collapsed, and screamed “They have killed my first son!”

Over pork.

Hyginus Ofoebu was 25 years old.

He watched six people get hacked to death in the street before he could find safety.

Six people.

In broad daylight.

Another Christian Ndubusi Ikena was 20 years old.

He survived the violence on Galadima Road.

When they finally stopped, he said something that should disturb every Nigerian.

He said, “It is not finished.”

He was right.

It was in 1991.

Today we are in 2026

And we are still facing terrorism everywhere in Nigeria.

In fact it has exploded into a monster that now threatens the whole of Africa and the world.
