Former Jigawa Governor Sule Lamido has said northern Nigeria must โ€œtell ourselves the truthโ€ to end worsening insecurity, blaming the crisis on poor leadership and moral decay. Speaking to Premier Radio Kano on Thursday, the PDP chieftain lamented that โ€œBoko Haram members and banditsโ€ฆ are our children from the Northโ€ and warned that โ€œthe fault is ours, and we must fix it, starting from proper upbringing at home.โ€

Lamido decried the politicization of insecurity, saying โ€œsomeone says Izala, another Qadiriyyaโ€ฆ this one says APC, another PDP, while this menace continues to confront us.โ€ He described the killings as unjustifiable: โ€œSomeone can invade your home, rape your wife and abduct youโ€ฆ Where is the power? If you cannot protect your people, the rogue simply becomes the governor.โ€ While backing state police with โ€œadequate training and discipline,โ€ he urged northern parents and leaders to unite, warning: โ€œWe are at a critical junctureโ€ฆ We must wake up or face the consequences.โ€
